RFID Apple's Chinese eating method
"eat an apple - although this apple is still a little green", hungry RFID industry insiders said
"we need to talk about the standard eating method of this apple", said the relevant standards institutions in the United States and Japan
"Apple itself and its eating technology are not mature on the issue of eating apples". Like those who eat crabs first, RFID early users and those who are about to try are a little worried
"on apples with high sugar content, it is relatively easy to achieve", which is recommended for people who apply low-frequency ripening
"you need to wait until apple is ripe", said people who expect to realize complex applications
some people also asked -
RFID Apple's Chinese way of eating
they all said that RFID (radio frequency identification) is an opportunity for China - people in the technical community said that RFID is another wave of information technology revolution since the Internet in the last century, which will make any object on the earth have a unique ID card - RFID code, and form an Internet of things; People in the trade circle said that RFID will become the DNA of the future business world; Enterprise executives said that the changes it has brought to enterprises not only lie in the visibility and accuracy of the production and circulation process of the laboratory machine industry, which has developed for several decades in China, but also in the combination with other industries such as CRM and ERP, which will become a sharp weapon in market competition, bringing about the improvement of the order and efficiency of enterprise management, the enhancement of competitiveness, and even the rearrangement of "industry seats"; People in the IT industry said that RFID will bring another take-off of it and related industries, and will drive the rapid development of chips, hardware, software (including Middleware), integration, services and other related fields; Industry executives said that the establishment of RFID standards will enable China to take the initiative in an industry from the height of standards and play a leading role in the future competition; Sociologists say that RFID used in public utilities will help create a harmonious and orderly society...
whose opportunities
so, where are the opportunities brought by RFID? Whose chance is it
from the perspective of supply chain, there are common product tracking problems in the production, transportation, circulation, retail and other links of Chinese enterprises. RFID is applied to supply chain management, which improves the accuracy of query and inventory, speeds up the circulation speed of delivery and receipt documents, and enhances the processing capacity. In fact, RFID can be applied to various industries to solve industry problems. In the transportation industry, the congestion of parking fees is solved through non parking fees; In terms of food and drugs, the place of origin can be traced, so as to eliminate the emergence of counterfeit goods; It is very common for port containers to be misplaced, or containers and parts to be lost. By using RFID on containers, containers can be accurately controlled; The application of RFID in railway, medical, library and retail stores will also greatly enhance the competitiveness of the industry
The application of RFID is all inclusive, and it is inexorably expanding its market share. According to IDC, RFID will reach 683million US dollars by the end of 2005 and 2billion US dollars in 2008. The huge market cake also presents RFID manufacturers with an opportunity. In the RFID industry chain, it includes chip providers, label manufacturers, hardware manufacturers such as interpreters, middleware, large-scale database and multi-functional management software manufacturers, and finally RFID integratorsif we look further, RFID will bring opportunities to countries that expect to make a difference. The United States has mastered chip technology and has strong strength in the software and other fields of the IT industry. China is becoming a global manufacturing center. Seizing the opportunity on RFID can accelerate the pace of transformation to a manufacturing power. Chinese IT enterprises are actively seizing the opportunity to participate in global standards and intellectual property rights on RFID
in a word, there are many opportunities for RFID, but who will fall on it depends on their own efforts and luck
standard suspense
rfid ideal can become a reality? Behind its enthusiasm, there are still some problems ahead. The first is the issue of standards
with regard to RFID, there has always been the use of ultra-high pressure water atomization, water gas combination atomization, vacuum/non vacuum limited atomization technology; The ultra-fine metal/alloy powder of medium frequency induction smelting equipment, high-pressure gas/water system, advanced atomizer and automatic control system, and powder automatic classification system technology belong to the two standard camps of the product range that are mainly supported. The United States, which has earlier research and application in RFID, is very active and open, and has formulated the EPC (electronic product code) standard. Coupled with the loose promotion of large retailers, its impact has begun to spread all over the world
Sakamura, a professor at the University of Tokyo in Japan who is known as the "father of RFID", has cooperated with Japanese enterprises to launch uid standards and hopes to achieve unification in Asia
there are many differences between the two in the use of wireless frequency bands, information bits and application fields, and many different large companies provide support. Due to different standards, the versatility of RFID products will become a major obstacle to the future development of RFID. While the dispute over standards between the two camps is increasingly fierce, South Korea and India have announced to establish their own standards
China occupies a huge market capacity of RFID. Is it to continue to use foreign common standards or establish its own standards? It is the common aspiration of industry experts to take the initiative in mastering their own standards and even become one of the participants in the formulation of global standards
through interviews with many experts, we can sum up two ideas for China to develop RFID. First, we can fully learn from the technology and standards of the United States and Japan to further establish our own standards; The second is to quickly establish its own intellectual property system on RFID through acquisition
technical troubles
many people believe that RFID is very mature in technology. In the interview, many industry users also reported that RFID application has no technical problems, and the reason why it will not be applied for the time being should be the cost or application mode. Manufacturers often claim that RFID technology is mature. In fact, this is a misunderstanding of RFID. RFID is relatively mature in low-frequency and high-frequency applications, but supply chain management focuses more on UHF RFID applications. There are still many technical difficulties to be overcome in the application of RFID in UHF, which are reflected in:
first, in terms of reading accuracy, the error rate is still relatively high for the reading of special materials and commodities such as liquids, metals, etc
second, in supermarkets, the conflict prevention problem of one-time reading of bulk commodities purchased by customers has not been well solved
third, in terms of technology, there is no good rule about which position of the label is better for reading and writing
fourth, the problem of reading accuracy of fast-moving objects, such as a moving train or car trunk, has not been solved
in addition, during the interview, some users also had doubts about how to arrange wireless networks for the service life of nylon plastic injection mold is 10 times that of aluminum alloy die-casting mold. A user of an iron and steel enterprise said that he really wanted to use RFID to control iron and steel products, but he wondered whether the label could withstand the high temperature of thousands of degrees
business model
it seems that RFID will bring a series of business opportunities. In fact, all over the world, governments, users and RFID manufacturers are still very confused about the application mode of RFID. This is mainly because a mature business model has not been summarized around RFID applications
in the case of Wal Mart in the United States, due to the existence of strong terminals, the costs are concentrated on suppliers. Therefore, it can be seen that the business model in the United States is based on supplier payment
in Japan, the use of RFID has been favored by many consumers, because the Japanese are more willing to pay the cost of using RFID because of their wealth and the pursuit of commodity quality. Therefore, Japan can be said to be a business model based on consumer payment
then, what is the situation in China? It should be said that there is no satisfactory answer to this problem at present, and we still need to explore and experiment
however, it is certain that there have been some successful application cases in China. For example, the RFID Application of the vehicle dispatching system of the Ministry of Railways took the lead in realizing the application of UHF RFID in the closed-loop environment. This is undoubtedly a business model that can be used for reference for vertical industries and enterprises
notes:
most people can realize that the combination of RFID and related information technology will bring a high return on investment. But on this road, there are many obstacles objectively
in the process of preparing this special issue, we interviewed a large number of industry users, RFID manufacturers and industry experts, and excavated a large number of domestic RFID application cases. We found that some of them are still very lack of knowledge of RFID, and many people hold a wait-and-see attitude because of the lack of successful cases of RFID in China. We have carefully selected some cases, and we dare not say that they are all successful, but after all, RFID has been applied in China. What one user said impressed me deeply: we can't wait for the RFID standard to mature, but we should upgrade while using it
